Genoa CFC has released a special fourth kit paying homage to Boca Juniors in celebration of the club’s 120-year anniversary. The distinct jersey spotlights the rich bond between the two clubs, recalling the founding of ‘Los Xeneizes’ by Genovese descendants back in 1905.
Boca Juniors was founded in 1905 by Italian immigrants from Genoa who had settled in Argentina. Because of this, Boca and Genoa have always shared a deep connection, embracing touches of each other’s culture and bringing it home. ‘Los Xeneizes’ (a nickname that originates from Genoese dialect) are now celebrating their 120-year anniversary and Genoa CFC are joining in with the festivities, designing a unique fourth kit paying tribute to the momentous occasion and honouring the rich bond they have shared during that time.
The new jersey celebrates the cultural and footballing brotherhood between the two clubs that has existed for over a century, and honours the migratory waves of the early 1900’s that brought many Genovese to Buenos Aires.
Arriving in traditional Boca Juniors colours, the jersey models a navy blue body with a bold central yellow band, paired with golden yellow accents and detailing. The Argentinian essence is fused with touches of Genoa identity – embodying the blending of the two clubs throughout history. A vintage-style fold over collar fashions the neck of the jersey, bringing back visons of ‘El Pibe de Oro’ in that iconic kit. Genoa’s Griffon crest sits on the chest paired next to the renowned Kappa logo, both modelling a delicate yellow. On the back of the jersey, the inscription reads ‘ZENEIXI’ – the Genoese adaptation of ‘Xeneizes’, acting as another nod to the Argentine club.
Celebrating the unveiling of the kit, Genoa CFC launched a powerful campaign capturing the emotional ties between Genoa and Buenos Aires. The campaign was shot by Sam Gregg who beautifully highlights the contrasting cities, yet the historical bond they share.
