Speed Football Boots - Nike Mercurial Vapor V Black/Voltage Yellow 03/07/09

The speed football boots keep on coming! Hot on the heels of the re-released Vapor Superfly is the Nike Mercurial Vapor V sporting the new Black/Voltage Yellow colourway.

The Black/Voltage Yellow Vapor V makes the final memebr of Nike's illustrious "Black Pack", joining the Superfly, T90 Laser II and Tiempo Legend III as the weapon's of choice for Nike sponsored players. But more on that later.

Even as far back as the official Vapor launch when suspect images and mock shots appeared on the web, the Black/Yellow colourway was a firm favourite with boot fans. The anticipation has been building so now it's finally here the SoccerBible can share our essential photos and info on this highly anticipated boot release!

Unlike the Platinum/Hot Red colourway released earlier in the summer, the Black/Volt Vapor V will be made available to the boot buying public in both Soft and Firm ground sole plates - a decision which is bound to convince many fans to part with their hard earned cash alone. The soft ground features a 6-studded removeable configuration whilst the firm ground option benefits from Nike's patented PU injected stud setup.

Either choice offers excellent traction and stablility and are designed to help acceleration and deceleration for the fastest players on the planet.

Ultimately designed for speed, the Nike Mercurial Vapor V football boots have a sleek aerodynamic design and are lightweight at just 230g. Which becomes noticeable once you try them on, as you really do have to remind yourself you are wearing a pair of football boots!

A popular feature of the Nike Mercurial Vapor IV football boots was the lace cover, which has been retained for the Vapor V. This provides a clean and improved striking area, which the likes of Theo Walcott, Franck Ribery and Didier Drogba have been taking full advantage for excellent boot-to-ball contact.

Many Mercurial players have had issues with the comfort and fit of the previous generation Vapor IV, and it seems Nike have listened and addressed these issues with the Vapor V. The heel counter is solid and supportive however the "pods" that sat inside the Vapor IV are now removed to address the comfort issue.

The controversial Flywire technology is retained on the instep of the Vapor V, where the distinctive supports are visible underneath a bright yellow swoosh. The Flywire acts as extra support and is designed to help the boot fit better to the shape of your foot.

You can read more about the benefits of Flywire technology with the SoccerBible's in-depth guide to the technology here.

To improve player speed Nike have designed their unique traction sole-plate for the firm ground version of the Nike Vapor V football boots. The design gets the most effective grip between the boots and the playing surface to enhance both speed and movement, and following player feedback from Didier Drogba and other players the Vapor V has had an additional stud added to the in-step area.

These highly popular football boots are expected to retail around £130 GBP, and are currently available for pre-order ahead of a 1st August release.
