For the King Finale ECO, Puma's clear target was to make the shoe as sustainable as possible, whilst not sacrificing the legendary performance features of the Puma King football boots. Without doubt it's an interesting concept, and one that's sure to have a reaction within the boots community, take a look and have your say with the SoccerBible community online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
The process for engineering the Puma King ECO began with Puma putting all the components that make up the King Finale next to each other, then for each part they looked for a substitute which is less harmful to the environment. Materials and components were selected either through the way it is produced, sourced or the material itself, thus creating an industry-leading eco-friendly football boot!
The upper of the Puma King Finale ECO football boots feature a special eco-friendly premium calf leather, that aspires to the standards set before and shapes to the foot for great fit and ball touch. This leather gives the player all the performance benefits whilst in the tanning process it saves on water and energy and is thus less harmful to the environment.
The ECO Finale retains the design characteristics of the latest incarnation of the King, with the vamp stitched with tight-rows to improve longevity and to help avoid stretching of the leather. The traditional fold-over tongue, which is kept down by a hook-and-loop fastener provides a cleaner kicking area and improves pressure distribution upon ball impact. Plus, the central lacing system providing comfort and securing wearability for various foot shapes, and to continue the eco theme the laces are made of 100% recycled yarn fibers.
The boot shape is also retained, because Puma have once again engineered the King Finale ECO on their revolutionary AptoLast. Which both ergonomically and optically closely follows the foot's natural shape, to best provide a glove like fit that allows the upper to mould to the players foot.
The outsole of the King Finale ECO soccer cleats, with its conical studs, does not only ensure optimal stability and manoeuvrability, in fact it is made of a special sustainable, bio-based TPU material. This new bio-based TPU material is made out of 26% renewable raw material.
Comfort and support once again comes from the anatomically shaped sockliner with a memory foam insert in the heel providing cushioning and enhancing comfort. Along with the leather heel tap, which increases comfort and reduces pressure on the Achilles tendon for the Puma ECO wearer.
The Puma King Finale ECO football boots are the next chapter in the history of the Puma King. Drawing on the classic design of the 1986 Mexico Finale, yet executed in the latest sustainable materials, such as bio-based TPU for the outsole and recycled fabrics for lining and laces.
Expected to be available from 1st July, the Black Coffee/White/Fairway Puma King Finale ECO football boots are expected to retail for around £135 GBP / $180 USD / €165 EURO.
