Nike Premier Football Boots - Black/White
This is what it's all about. This, ladies and gentlemen is a football boot. No gimmicks, no flash colourways, just beautiful leather perfection wrapped up in classic Nike style. Thought football boots had changed forever? Think again. Introducing the Nike Premier football boots...
With all the ground-breaking technology we've seen in recent releases, Nike looked to be focusing all their efforts on designing a boot for the ever evolving modern game but with the launch of the Premier it's plain to see Nike haven't forgotten where it all started.
Visually, the inspiration from the boot came from two sources: the iconic 1994 Tiempo Premier, worn by 10 of the players in that year's World Cup final, and the first shoe to ever carry the Swoosh, a 1971 boot called 'The Nike'.
The premium leather used for the upper sets the benchmark for softness and feel for leather-based boots, the feel is like no other on any boot in the market at the moment, it's difficult to describe how soft these boots are, they really need to be held to be fully appreciated. Naturally comparisons are already being made between the Premier and the famous adidas Copa Mundial.
The brief to the Nike Football design team was to create a classic-looking boot using the latest technology and it's fair to say they've nailed it. Phil McCartney, Vice-President of Nike Football Footwear said "When we first showed our players the Nike Premier they said to us: 'That looks like a classic from the archive.' When they put it on though, they realized it's far from old-fashioned."
"We know from talking to players that fit, touch and traction are the three things that they want from their boots. We define fit as comfort over 90 minutes, with no distractions. There are players out there who want a beautiful black leather boot that delivers a great fit and a ultra-soft touch on the ball. The Premier is for those players." added McCartney.
The boot may look like it's been plucked out of the archives but Nike ensure that under that retro bonnet is a boot equipped to compete in the modern game. McCartney explained "A lot of players will see the Nike Premier and be reminded of the early-to-mid 1990s. When they put the boot on and get out on the pitch, they will soon realize that this is a 21st century product."
The Premier uses Nike's most anatomical football last to date, as also seen on the new Hypervenom, which helps place the foot closer to the ball and ground for greater touch.
Everything about the Premier is perfection, from the the small details such as the 'Est.1972' on the heel and the blacked out 'NIKE' on the tongue to being reminded how good a classic black and white boot looks; it's even reasonably lightweight as far as leather boots go.
There's no chance the Premier will be a one season wonder, they're impeccability designed so you'll get a good few seasons out of them before they're resigned to football boot heaven and with a price tag of under £100/$90/€110 we've got a feeling these are going to be popular...
The Nike Premier launches in North America on June 1 and will be available elsewhere from July 1 at selected online stockists including Pro-Direct Soccer.
