Laceless and leather, Umbro have released the next generation to their Medusae line. A boot that looks to marry elite speed with a classic touch, the new K-leather upper strips out the traditional use of laces as Umbro look to take a less is more approach to the game.

Stepping out with a fresh approach, those Double Diamonds have dug into their DNA to move things forward with the Medusae 3. Naturally, leather boots are part and parcel of Umbro’s performance product, with the Umbro Speciali an icon on the pitch since 1992. But the new Medusae 3 Elite is far removed from the traditional leather boot, with every element designed for functionality in the modern game.

Two years in the making, Umbro haver invested time into perfecting the boot. Their research has involved speaking with professional players who asked for a lighter boot with an extended leather vamp for a better touch and feel for the ball. If an element didn’t add comfort, improve fit and feel or aid performance, then the design team simply took it out. The result is a sophisticated leather boot that’s laceless and light. Weighing just 170g, it is Umbro's lightest ever leather boot.

The Medusae 3 Elite comes in a black, white and marine green colourway and will be worn by a number of Umbro players including Portugal’s European Champion Pepe, Edison Flores of Peru and the US Women’s goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris. It will be seen on pitch for the first time in this week’s international fixtures.

Initially limited to 24 pairs in each country as a nod to Umbro’s foundation in 1924, the Medusae 3 Elite is on sale from Friday 19th October, available at umbro.co.uk before general release in early 2019.
