Nike has made its first on-pitch move of the new year, unveiling the next generation PhantomVSN II, and the double release of ‘Future Lab’ and ‘Kinetic Black’ colourways spills from the pitch onto the small-sided game, with turf and indoor court variations available in both colourways.
Presenting its new Vision for 2020, Nike has launched the PhantomVSN II in two colourways; the on-pitch-supported ‘Future Lab’ and the sleek and understated ‘Kinetic Black’. The boot itself boasts a revamped fit for greater comfort, a sleeker silhouette and improved connection with the ball, and these improvements have not been restricted to just the boundaries of the white lines, with the precision and agility of the small-sided game inspiring the designs of the turf and indoor court versions.
Nike has shifted the design of the PhantomVSN II to a more attacking stance, and it’s a move that's perfect for the small-sided game. The same Ghost Lace System and Quadfit technology have been carried across from the original PhantomVSN, but it’s now housed in a new look, where the signature control triangle has been moved forward along with the Swoosh, mirroring the more attack minded approach behind the overall design. With the need to be on the front-foot in an instant whilst still maintaining close control of the ball, the PhantomVSN II brings some interesting new dynamics to the game away from the grass.
Whether you’re kicking on the court, cage, street or turf, the smaller variations of the game demand a better manipulation of the ball and tighter control, and that’s addressed by a significantly reengineered texture on the upper that has been placed in key zones. But it's underfoot that the real points of difference occur, with React cushioning in both the turf and court versions building further on the overall comfort offered by the upper improvements, providing a springy responsiveness. So now all you have to do is pick a look – match the pitch or play understated.
