Nike have just launched the second drop from their new Mercurial 'Dream Speed' series as the boot which is supplied to their headline trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé and Sam Kerr receives a blast of vibrancy ahead of the business end of the 2019/20 season.

The Dream Speed series essentially replaced the CR7 signature Mercurial collection back in September 2019 when the first design of the collection launched to re-position Kylian Mbappé and Sam Kerr alongside Cristiano Ronaldo as part of a wider squad of leading Swoosh stars. The second iteration delivers a juicy slice of summery vibes as it's set to take to the pitch in a citrus-infused colourway that demands the attention the three players deserve when working their respective magic.

The Nike Mercurial Dream Speed features unique design interpretations of speed, to be unveiled one at a time over the next several seasons. Those numbers within the Swoosh, what are they all about? That right there is the speed of light (299,792,458 meters per second). And the gradient dotted design on the upper takes looks familiar doesn't it? That's because the inspiration for this was taken from the iconic Mercurial Vapor III, while the transition of colours representing the various frequencies of light.

As with the first Nike Mercurial Dream Speed edition, the latest addition features an alternative aesthetic to the standard Mercurial, with a re-worked Swoosh on the Mercurial Superfly VII and Mercurial Vapor XIII. While the first Dream Speed featured dominant '001' numbering on the outstep, the Dream Speed 2 is lower-key in that sense as it places the numbering on the insole and on the heels while letting that eccentric colourway take the spotlight. CR7, Mbappé and Kerr will all switch into the boot this week ahead of chasing their respective silverware moving into spring.
