Nike break away from their four-silo collection drops by releasing a fresh colourway on their latest Phantom Vision II series. Landing as just the third colour wrap on the second-generation boot, the VSN is hooked up with a "White/Black/Laser Crimson" combination as spring creeps closer.

Nike have had a tendency to launch "packs" all at once in recent seasons. We've gotten used to the Swoosh rolling out the VSN, VNM, Mercurial & Tiempo together under a thought-out title that cleverly links each design together through either colours or a story, so when a random colourway drops out of the blue, it's unexpected, disruptive, and do you know what? We like it. It's always good to be kept on your toes, especially when they come as clean as this.

The second-generation Nike PhantomVSN II launched in a choice of two colourways in January: the 'Future Lab' drop, which was worn by all Nike contracted players on pitch, and the low-key blackout edition from the 'Kinetic Black' collection. As we enter the business end of the season Nike have introduced a third option which delivers a crowd-pleasing aesthetic onto the scene in FG and AG only as the Swoosh fix their eyes firmly on the drier end-of-season pitches.

While the majority of Nike PhantomVSN II players will remain in the more vibrant 'Future Lab' launch colourway, Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne has been selected by Nike to switch into the "White/Black/Laser Crimson" design, so expect to see him wearing them when his side travel to the Bernabeu to take on Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
