Anyone who knows anything about football boots knows that light weight means seriously fast, and with that mindset firmly in place, adidas drop the special edition X Crazylight, which arrives with modern tech and a throwback look.

Originally introduced through basketball in 2011, adidas first brought Crazylight technology to football with the Adizero F50 Crazylight in March 2014, the lightest football boot ever produced at that time, weighing in at a mere 135g. Of course, the adizero 99g came along shortly after, smashing that short-lived record, but it didn’t diminish the influence of Crazylight and the legacy it left. Now, adidas pay homage to that original release with the limited edition X Crazylight, which lands with some seriously modern tech and a throwback aesthetic.

As you’d imagine, and as has been the case in the past, the X Crazylight strips things right back while not compromising on comfort. This is achieved in part, through the Aerocage+ upper, which offers support and stability at high speeds. The boot has been stripped back on areas of the boot that need less materials to ensure that the overall weight is kept to a minimum. This includes super-light laces and even super-light sockliners – no part of the boot’s design has been overlooked in the pursuit of the lightest functional boot possible.

That light weight design obviously continues with the soleplate, which has been built with AEROPLATE technology to also keep the weight to an absolute minimum. And it’s all wrapped up in a throwback aesthetic that nods to the 2014 original, and the follow up that arrived six months after. Here, it’s an official “Lucid Lemon/White/Solar Red” colourway that plays out through that eye-catching graphic, which splits the look from the lateral to the medial sides.

All in all, this limited edition drop will be seen on pitch in equally limited numbers, and it serves as a hint at what Adidas have in store for the 2023/24 season.
