Fresh off the back of its relaunch after a nine-year hiatus, adidas introduce the F50+ – a boot that pushes boundaries, combining the very best expertise from track running and football engineering to create a boot built for game-changing speed.
The adidas F50 returned from its premature retirement recently, arriving in a solo launch colourway before joining the wider ranks as part of the Advancement Pack. And it was as part of the latter that we got introduced to all the different options available: there was the elite laced model, elite laceless, and even a women’s-specific fit with the F50 Mid W Elite. So you’d be forgiven for thinking that that was a pretty comprehensive set of choices and that was the lot. But if you did think that, you’d be wrong, because adidas have one more card up their sleeve in the form of the F50+ – a boot that pushes boundaries, combining the very best expertise from track running and football, to create a boot built for game-changing speed.
Classed by the Three Stripes as the first football super-shoe, the F50+ is an innovative boot design that combines best-in-class technological specifications, from industry leading adidas football and track running silhouettes.
During its development, designers and engineers introduced testing procedures traditionally used during the development of performance running shoes – specifically, linear speed and angular velocity testing to assess straight line and multidirectional speed – and combined these insights with their industry leading football boot and running shoe technology. The result is a performance football boot, optimised for game-breaking speed.
Lifting the bonnet, and the main point of note is the introduction of Lightstrike Pro technology, a high-performance foam insert traditionally found in adidas Running spikes. The foam insert serves to improve energy return when the foot strikes the ground and re-releases during push-off, maximising how the boot absorbs energy, giving the wearer an extra feeling of fast.
Beneath the Lightstrike Pro, is a two-part soleplate frame – Sprintframe 360+ – comprising a stiffened forefoot plate and an external heel counter. This provides the wearer with a lightweight and secure boot structure allowing for extra propulsion through the wearer's stride. While the rounded and bladed stud of the soleplate is optimised for stability and traction underfoot, when in full flight.
For this first iteration, the F50+ arrives in a "Lucid Blue/Ftwr White/Solar Red" colourway, matching up with the other F50 options in the Advancement Pack.
