To honour his performances at this summer’s Euros, in which he finished as the tournament’s joint top scorer, PUMA have presented Netherlands forward, Cody Gakpo, with a special pair of signature edition Ultra 5 Ultimate boots.
While no one ran away with the scoring at Euro 24 this summer, Cody Gakpo earned a lot of praise for his dynamic attacking style for The Netherlands, which yielded three goals. It was enough to see him as the tournaments joint top scorer, along with Spain’s Dani Elmo, Georgia’s Georges Mikautadze, Germany’s Jamal Musiala, Slovakia’s Ivan Schranz, and, of course, Harry Kane, and now PUMA honour that achievement with a special signature pair of Ultra 5 Ultimate boots for the Dutchman.
The design see a white base that's dominated by a vibrant yellow/gold burst that rises from the iridescent gold soleplate through the upper. "Cody" appears on the left heel, and "Gakpo" on the right, both in stylised gold font in recognition of the achievement. The branding takes on a contrasting black, with the outline of the brand's famous Formstripe riding down the lateral side of the boots.
The Netherlands enjoyed a good run in the tournament, exiting at the semi-final stage in a hard fought 2-1 game against England, and Gakpo’s performances were key to Ronald Koeman’s side.
For the design of the boot, PUMA turned to regular collaborator, Silni, and the French graphic artist went about putting his personal touches to the design. And that’s acknowledged by the presence of his signature on the inner heel.
The boots were presented in an equally special box that acknowledged not only his status as joint top scorer, but also his key stats from the tournament (3 goals, 1 assist) and the actual goals he scored (one in the 2-1 group stage win over Poland, one in the 3-2 group stage loss to Austria, and one in the 3-0 Round of 16 win against Romania).
While some people would be inclined to put a post like this on the mantlepiece, Gakpo is set to wear them this weekend, as he returns to international duty with The Netherlands for their Nations League match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Unfortunately, it looks like the PUMA Ultra Ultimate x Gakpo is a one-of-one and so it won't be available for retail.
