Nike Drop Chapter 2 Of The Air Zoom Mercurial 'Cosmic Speed' Series

With the Dream Speed series having concluded, Nike ramp up the Cosmic Speed, with the reveal of the second chapter, which sees separate colourways for the Air Zoom Mercurial Vapor XVI and Superfly X.

The Dream Speed series has been the special edition spectacle for the Nike Mercurial line since 2019, but with the launch of the ninth edition earlier this month, it has now been concluded. Thankfully for those of us who crave the disruptive nature of these stand alone launches though, the Cosmic Speed series was introduced back in September of this year, and now we get a second dose with Chapter 2.

For the first time in what feels like a long time, the Mercurial Vapor and Superfly models are presented in a distinctly different look, with the former arriving in a “Bright Mango/Black” colourway that nods to the Vapor VIII, and the latter taking on a “Hyper Turq/Black” look in homage to the Mercurial Vapor IX special-edition 98 boots from 2014.

While Chapter 1 saw a stealthy look, shimmering with iridescence, Chapter 2 comes in stark contrast, with the bright colours flashing throughout. Under those colours though, and it’s the same base presentation, with the “Nike” wording sitting on the heel and the graphic band wrapping across the forefoot. Although they’re more colourful in their presentation, the Chapter 2 Vapor and Superfly still boast that shimmering iridescent flash, provided by the PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) process; the vacuum style method of applying thin metal colourways to fabrics.

As with Chapter 1, you can expect to see the world’s fastest players such as Vini Jr., Lauren James, Salma Paralluelo, Ada Hegerberg and Sam Kerr lacing up in these in the coming weeks.
